Reasons to Love the Hilltop This Fall

Reasons to Love the Hilltop This Fall

By Taylor

The leaves are starting to fall, and the temperatures are finally beginning to drop! Here are some of the things we love most about Georgetown in the fall.

Return of the Farmer's Market!

There is nothing more quintessentially “fall” at Georgetown then an autumn afternoon spent at the Farmer’s Market. Grab one of the famous crepes, a hot personal pizza, or any other entree or snack of your choosing, and head to Copley Lawn to join friends and classmates enjoying the day. We all know it can stay pretty warm at Georgetown even into the fall months… so I recommend a bubble tea made by Georgetown’s very own Georgetown Bubble!

Homecoming

Homecoming weekend on the hilltop is an awesome weekend, whether you’re a sports fan or not. Cheer on the football and field hockey teams at Cooper Field, and head up the hill to Shaw Field to watch some soccer. Even if you have no intentions of watching the games, this is still an awesome opportunity to spend time with your friends on campus and show off your Georgetown pride. Be sure to buy your tailgate tickets in advance - you won’t want to miss it!

DCAF

Every fall, the Phantoms and Gracenotes team up to host the DC A Capella Festival (DCAF!). This is one of my favorite fall performances, and it takes place right in Gaston Hall. Hear some awesome music performed by your friends and fellow Hoyas, along with some super talented visiting a capella groups from around the country!

Parent & Family Weekend

Whether your parents are coming or not, Georgetown’s “Parent & Family Weekend” can be a super fun time. If you have family coming in, take the opportunity to really show them around campus (it’ll be a lot less crazy than move-in weekend). If you don’t have any visitors, you can still have an awesome weekend. Last year, I had a blast meeting my friends’ parents, and a few of them even took me out for meals since my family couldn’t make it! Can’t say no to a free meal.

Saxby's Pumpkin Spice Lattes

This might be my personal favorite thing about Georgetown in the fall. Unlike the previous items on the list, which only happen once, you can cherish this one all season! The PSL’s at Saxby’s are the best I have ever had, and they are the perfect thing to warm you up on a cool fall day. If you haven’t tried one, I highly recommend it.

Leaves Falling on the Hilltop

If the PSL’s don’t do it for you, Georgetown’s aesthetic definitely will. Campus always looks beautiful, but there’s something about the golden leaves falling on the Georgetown streets that makes it even MORE gorgeous. If you love Instagram, you will love Georgetown in the fall. So many photo ops!
